Santa Fe to Abiquiu Lake

Today was a very short 39 mile ride. We were warned it may be uphill but we were pleasantly surprised to find it was mostly downhill. Since the ride was so short we had plenty of time to take a 2 hr lunch, which Hannah and I "pre-gamed" with a milkshake from Sonic. The ride was very scenic and our host tonight, Danny and his wife Gabriella, have a house up on a Mesa. You can see for 110 miles into the distance and it truly is amazing. We can actually see where we'll be tomorrow night.

Tonight is our first night camping but Danny has treated us so well that camping hardly seems like the right term. They whipped up a delicious pasta dish as a pre dinner snack, provided beer and wine to those of age, and had a bomb cookout with some great fresh side dishes. The colors were all so vibrant and everything tasted so fresh. We were able to meet many neighbors and give a B&B presentation. Now, as I sit here I am listening to some great live entertainment, enjoying the breeze and the spectacular mountain view.

All is more than good here. And tonight with Danny and company couldn't possibly be a better first camping experience. Also, Danny runs a website, feel free to check it out! Newmexicooutdoor.com

  1. Amazing! I take it you are nowhere near the fires - can't even see any smoke from them. Continue to enjoy and share pictures - I was so excited when I got your postcard- first ever from Texas! Keep safe!
