Before the trip begins, each cyclist must raise $4,500. I really appreciate anything that you can contribute. Don't forget to check and see if your donation is eligible for a matching gift from your employer. Also, Bike & Build is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation (click here to download the determination letter); their EIN is 36-4524531, so all your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
I'll be riding approximately 4,000 miles and need to raise $4,500. This is about $1 a mile, or ($1.13 if we're being more precise). You can sponsor me for as many miles as you'd like. Every mile will bring me a little closer to the west coast. I've included some different amounts that are significant for the trip below including sponsoring me for a day or, if you are really in a giving mood, for an entire state.
Sponsor me for a day! -- $100
The average mileage per day is about 75 miles, but later in the summer we will ride several "century rides", rides of 100 miles or more. You can sponsor me for an entire B & B day for just $100. Choose any day of the trip you’d like to sponsor me. On your sponsored day, I will call or send you a postcard, whichever you wish. Note: Please be sure to send me an email (modrallj@gmail.com) with which day you would like to sponsor, and if/how you would like to be contacted.
Sponsor an entire state!
Platinum State – $500 – FL (557 miles), LA (412 miles), TX (636 miles), NM (524 miles), CA (678 miles)– over 400 miles ridden in each state
Gold State – $400 – AZ (370 miles) – between 300 and 400 miles ridden
Silver State – $250 – UT (160 miles), NV (235 miles) – between 150 and 250 miles ridden
Bronze State – $150 – AL, MS, OK – less than 150 miles ridden
These donation levels are for people or companies who might want to give more. Which ever state you choose, I'll send you pictures from that state once the trip is complete and I'll call you to let you know how I'm progressing if you'd like.

To donate by check or money order, print out the donation form, fill it out, and mail it with your check (made payable to 'Bike & Build') to:

How will this money be used?
Proceeds from Bike & Build events are distributed through four methods:
- En-Route Donations: Bike & Build supports housing groups in the communities our events visit.
- Competitive Grants: Riders on each trip will receive grant applications and award funding through a team based competitive selection process.
- Individual Rider Grants: Each rider can allocate a portion of their fundraising to an affordable housing organization of their choice.
- Pre-Arranged Donations: Bike & Build will make pre-determined contributions to fund projects executed by the groups we work with to produce our events.
