Not Cuba to Farmington

Our day was supposed to be a century, however, it involved starting out with 30 miles of shuttling over dirt and gravel road. Holly and I were sweep so we had to take the second shuttle. The first shuttle took almost 3 hrs, because, as we later learned, the trailer fell off and had to be reattached. I got an awesome nap in. But, we didn't get started biking until 11:30. And by 12 we were only at mile 5. We had had the forethought to pack ourselves sandwiches in case the van didn't make it in time for lunch. We picked up David a few miles in and stopped to eat our lunch at mile 18.

We had been told our ride today would be mostly if not all downhill. However, this was definitely not the case. We had an awesome descent as we got closer to the city, after second lunch once the van caught up. We knew that the showers close at 7 pm. At 4 pm we had 25 miles still to ride and we didn't make it in until 6:30. The last 15 miles involved stopping as a few riders got flat tires. And also slow progress as the winds and traffic picked up as the road conditions deteriorated. We made it in and took a super quick shower, enjoyed a nice potluck dinner, and a few of us are now watching a movie. We'll enjoy a build day, building a playground tomorrow, as well as a much needed day off the bike.
